About the Artist
Marilyn Liedman Watercolor Artist
Marilyn’s interest in art was nurtured while growing up in Philadelphia. She has lived in the south Florida area since 1962, raised her family there and discovers inspiration from its natural beauty, finding herself drawn to the water and its constantly changing reflections of tropical life and brilliant skies.
After a comprehensive educational background in the arts, including course study at the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and architecture at Miami-Dade College, Marilyn discovered watercolor as her medium of choice. While enjoying a long career as an architectural artist, she continued her education as a student of Millard Wells, AWS with whom she developed her skills as a plein air artist and considers painting on location the backbone of her current work. Since retiring from the field of Architectural Arts, she has returned to painting and has devoted her career to developing her skills as a watercolor artist.
"My experience of painting on location in the Florida Keys and during my travels throughout the world has been an invaluable tool to understanding the movement of light and shadow and the effects of wind and moisture, knowledge that I am able to use while painting in the studio. Chasing light and shadow with watercolor has become my artistic passion."
Recently, Marilyn spends more time in the studio using some "alternative" techniques that have opened her style to include a more abstract perspective while still maintaining the integrity of the pure watercolor process.
